Therapeutic Methods

I work with people struggling with a variety of life issues, but my specialty is working with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma related issues. Although my foundation is Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I utilize different therapies and techniques depending on the needs of each unique client.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

An action-oriented approach that stems from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Clients learn Mindfulness techniques to stop avoiding, trying to control, and struggling with their inner emotions. Instead, they learn to accept that these feelings and thoughts are normal responses to situations that should not prevent them from moving forward in their lives. With this understanding, clients begin to accept their issues and hardships and commit to making necessary changes in their behavior, regardless of what is going on in their lives, and how they feel about it.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

MB-CT combines cognitive behavioral techniques with Mindfulness in order to help individuals better understand and manage their thoughts and emotions in a nonjudgmental and compassionate way. MB-CBT is especially effective in treating symptoms of depression and anxiety.
